Experts ascribe this unique character largely to the Uva climate. The region is exposed to the winds of both the northeast and southwest monsoon systems, but the weather is relatively dry, particularly during July to September – the period of the southwest monsoon. Grown at an elevation between 3,000 to 5,000 feet above sea level, on the eastern slopes of Sri Lanka’s central mountains, the UVA teas have a truly unique flavour. Those teas are commonly used in many different blends but with their different characteristics, they can also be enjoyed on their own.
