Nestled in a valley at an elevation of 1,041 metres above sea-level, Ella is a quiet, quaint town in the Hill Country, famous for its spectacular views, Sri Lanka’s breathtaking waterfalls, ancient caves and wonderful walking opportunities are at Ella. From the famed Ella Gap, you can see between the green steep mountain-sides and down nearly 1,000 metres to the coastal plain that spreads out to the Indian Ocean. Given the slightly wider range of growing altitude and more varied climatic conditions, it is not surprising that the teas of Ella show a little more variation in character than those of the other predominantly low-grown district, Ruhuna.
